This Week at Peace - September 18, 2009

What a joy it is to see so many authentic relationships being forged among the people at Peace! Last night, as the Leadership Team gathered for our last meeting before chartering, we expressed gratitude for the gifts of those who will not be leading as elders on the session as of October 18. I wish you all could have been there to feel the love that was expressed.

We had a similar experience on Monday night when the Peace Women, now named "Sisters of Peace" shared their life stories while watching the sun go down on Siesta Key. It was a rich time of fellowship.

The same kind of meaningful friendships will be built at our "Feasting on Gratitude" dinners…coming soon, prior to charter. Don‘t miss out.

Pray for Kathy Flora and Larry Brown, both in a painful surgical recovery period. And for Ivy Ruark and Lucy Aungst, whose sisters are very ill. Rejoice with the Seiters and the Notos who have new grandchildren, Lola and Cameron, born recently! And think of newcomer Jacquie Craig, Troy‘s stepmother, who is grieving the recent death of her daughter.

When have you visited the Peace website? Did you know that the exciting new youth fellowship schedule is there? You can also read about the Trimbles, Presbyterian missionaries in Pakistan. Go to www.PEACEpcusa.com. Feedback always welcome.

Thank you for your generous response to Peace River Presbytery‘s special appeal for Mission Beth-El (& Peniel) and Cedarkirk Camp. We collected nearly $2000 and the Mission Team added $2000 from their budget, designated for Beth-El. The presbytery is getting close to the goal of $92,000, but hopes with other churches’ offerings this Sunday to gather enough to keep Beth-El/Peniel at Immokalee running in 2010 – another $60,000 needed for that.

Don‘t forget that school supplies, backpacks, coupons, and non-perishable food items are collected every week at Peace for Mission Beth-El. Make feeding the hungry part of your regular routine.

Peace to you!
Elizabeth

This Week At Peace - September 11, 2009

This Sunday we welcome Pastor Ramiro Ros from Mission Beth-El to our pulpit. He will read from 2 Samuel 6:1-6 and Luke 8:40-48, stories about touching the holiness of God, which have two very different outcomes. We will collect a special offering to sustain our presbytery‘s covenant partners, Missions Beth-El and Peniel and Cedarkirk Camp. Please give generously to these vital ministries.

The Women of Peace hope that all people with double X chromosomes will join us at the north end of public Crescent Beach on Siesta Key thissssss Monday, September 14 at 6:00 to share blessings and concerns and watch the sunset at 7:36. Shirley will share results of the group naming. To carpool, meet at Sweetbay on Hwy 70 at 5:00. RSVP to sueseiter@verizon.net

Peace is FEASTING on GRATITUDE, as we approach our chartering date. Let‘s share a meal and enjoy building relationships as we celebrate all that God has done for us. We counting on 100% participation from charter members and affiliates. Sign up for all your available dates now: September 25 or 26, October 2 or 3, and for snowbirds, either October 15 or 16. Childcare provided by the Deibert family on September 25. Again the contact person is sueseiter@verizon.net

New classes have begun, youth fellowship begins this Sunday afternoon, and both choirs start next week. The Ciechanowskis are looking for help with hospitality (yummy food) on October 18, and Gia is counting on some charter service choir members to rehearse just a few weeks, as we prepare for that happy day!

Peace to you,
Elizabeth

This Week at Peace - September 5, 2009

With the beginning of September, the pace of church life picks up after summer. There a feeling of newness in the air. New lively learning classes, newly elected session of elders, new season for choirs, and ministry teams ready to include new people to do new work. This autumn has a real energy for Peace, as we prepare for chartering on October 18!

To add to this newness, we new Peace golf/polo shirts have arrived for those who placed an order. Remember your $20 and find Emily Miller this Sunday.

We also have new dinner group plans for autumn. As we approach our chartering service we are counting on everyone‘s participation in an evening called "Feasting on Gratitude." There are several date options from which to choose. (stay tuned)

Remember that this is good time to visit a ministry team, see what‘s going on, feel connected. Why do we call them ministry teams, instead of committees? Because committees are task-focused, and ministry teams are people-oriented. We spend time building community, then do the work of the church.

This week‘s service focuses on two healing stories from Mark 7:24-37. They give us the opportunity to think about what it means to pray persistently, even to beg for help.

Next week, Pastor Ramiro Ros from Mission Beth-El will preach at Peace and we will collect a special offering to support the on-going ministries of Beth-El.

Peace,
Pastor Elizabeth
