Peace be with you!
Friends of Peace – Those near and far away.
With almost forty children on our active rolls now, we have many exciting activities planned for the new school year in youth fellowship, lively learning, worship, and children‘s choir! This is a great time to get connected to life at Peace. New classes begin September 6. Contact Pastor Tricia to get more information about youth and Music Director Gia for more about choir.
In September we will collect a special offering for our friends at Mission Beth-El (ministry to farmworkers and families) and for our church camp, Cedarkirk. Both are having terrible shortfalls in budgeting, due to the decline in giving among most churches. We want to do all we can to ease the financial burden of those hit hardest by the recession by continuing our support of programs which bring peace in the midst of despair. For information about Peace‘s mission giving opportunities, please contact Eirinn Camphire.
In case you missed the big summer news, Peace was awarded a $50,000 Walton Grant for being an outstanding new church development in the Presbyterian Church (USA).
There is still time to become a charter member of Peace. Our charter celebration will be October 18th at 4:00 and you are all welcome to come – charter members and friends of Peace too!
"Practice What You Preach" is our theme for Sunday, August 30th, as we read James 1:17-27 and consider what it means to be "doers of the word and not merely hearers, who deceive themselves."
We will elect twelve elders and vote on a call to this pastor at the congregational meeting at 10:30 on Sunday. Pray for all our leaders to be effective "doers of the word."
Hope you will be at Peace with us. Any questions, comments, or prayer concerns, please check our website http://www.peacepcusa.com/
Blessings,
Pastor Elizabeth

This Week at Peace - August 20, 2009
Thanks to Gia Havener and all the children, youth, and adults who did a wonderful job with the musical "Cool in the Furnace." Thanks to Joe Sardo and the Joyful Jammers for an lively time singing God‘s praise, and to Judi Creneti for summarizing "Freedom of Simplicity" learnings. Our summer classes will continue through the end of August. Children will learn bells!
This Sunday in worship we are having a special celebration of God‘s goodness as we sing hymns and spiritual songs from the 4th to the 21st Century. The proclamation of the Gospel will come through scripture and song.
Thanks to the nominating committee for producing a slate of candidates for election as Peace‘s first session of elders. In case you missed "This Week at Peace" last week, the names are as follows:
One year (class of 2010)
Gretchen Frueh, Jason Adams, Frank Creneti, Gail Lowe
Two years (class of 2011)
Rod Scott, Robin Miller, Chuck McClurg, Barbara Staton
Three years (class of 2012)
Tom Ciechanowski, Sue Seiter, Eirinn Camphire, Larry Brown
Please note the change in Peace Presbyterian's web-based communication system, CCB. Now when you reply to CCB e-mail, you are replying to all, not just to the person who sent the e-mail.
Richard and I are leaving momentarily to take Catherine off to college.
Peace to you,
Elizabeth

This Week at Peace - August 14, 2009
Dear Peace Family,
Your nominating committee members — Kim Adams (chair), Troy Ballou, Betty Clough, Mickey Miller, Phil Springstead, Catherine Deibert (youth), Elizabeth Deibert, pastor, ex officio — recommend the names below for your prayerful consideration. You will have the opportunity to vote on Sunday, August 30th at 10:30.
If elected, these persons will study and prepare to be ordained and installed to serve as Elders on the Session, prayerfully guiding this congregation, much as the Leadership Team has done in the last several years. Elders should be "persons of faith, dedication, and good judgment. Their manner of life should be a demonstration of the Christian gospel, both within the church and in the world." (Book of Order, G-6.0303)

This Sunday we celebrate the success of our summer experiences in Lively Learning.
The Joyful Jammers, directed by Joe Sardo, will lead us in an enjoyable sing-along with the praise band.
Gia Havener, with children and youth, has prepared a fun adaptation of the musical,"Cool in the Furnace."
Our worship service will focus on vignettes from the book of Daniel, so by the end of the morning you should be well-acquainted with the courageous faith stories of Daniel and his friends, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
Peace to you, one and all,
Elizabeth

This Week at Peace - August 8, 2009
Dear Friends,
This Sunday Ephesians 4:25-5:2 challenges us to speak the truth in love and to avoid letting the sun go down on our anger. Our church’s mission is "to make God known by growing as disciples of Jesus Christ, building a community of peace, and caring for the needs of others." We cannot make God known unless we love like God loves, an impossible goal, yet one toward which we will continually strive.
Hey everyone, we need your help. If you are planning to be a charter member of Peace (or an affiliate member, maintaining your primary membership elsewhere) then we ask you to complete the attached form and return to Robin Miller or simply reply to me. Some of you did this last Sunday. Thanks! Forms will be available at church too.

Our youth are having a meaningful mission trip in the foothills of SC with Pastor Tricia, the Tuites, and Rod Scott chaperoning.
Our elder nominating committee has been working fruitfully and you will hear from them next week. The congregational meeting is on August 30 to elect the first three classes of elders with four in each class.
There’s a pool party here at our house 2:00-6:00 on August 16th for children, youth, and any adults who can handle the organized chaos. That’s the day of our 11:00 Musical, "Cool in the Furnace" and our sing-along with the Joyful Jammers.
Peace to you and all whom you love,
Pastor Elizabeth
