This Week at Peace - - March 18, 2012

Peace People,

If I don’t see you at the Camphires’ Irish Party at 1421 70th St East, Bradenton, 34208, on Saturday afternoon, I surely hope to see you Sunday morning at Peace.

We will reflect on the immeasurable gift of God – grace – that free gift of love that we do not deserve and cannot earn. Let us never stop being amazed by the boundlessness and beauty of this gift, such that our way of life reflects that bounty and beauty. Read Ephesians 2:1-10 to prepare for worship.

Here’s part of a prayer for St Patrick’s Day written by the Saint himself, who lived from 389-461!

Christ be with me, Christ within me,
Christ behind me, Christ before me,
Christ beside me, Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort and restore me,
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,
Christ in hearts of all that love me,
Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.

Mark your calendar now for a meaningful Holy Week. Palm Sunday is April 1, Good Friday is April 6 at 7:00, and Easter Sunday, April 8. On Good Friday, we will share a simple meal around tables, remembering the Last Supper, before hearing the Passion Narrative, read by multiple voices. The staff, choirs, and Worship Team are working hard to prepare for this central season of the church year.

Peace to all,

Elizabeth

This Week at Peace - - March 11, 2012

Dear Peacemakers,

We are offering you many opportunities during Lent for sacrifice to benefit others. We recognize that you will prayerfully decide what you are called to do.

Pintos, Panties, and Pampers – Helping supply the most basic of needs. Bring in supplies or write a check – your choice.

Fast and Pray for Fair Food – this Saturday go to Lakeland, leaving from Peace at 11:00 to participate in the peaceful walk, praying that Publix will find a way to help farmworkers achieve just pay for tomatoes.

NO Sisters of Peace Prayer Walk at Peace at 10:00 this week, but speak to Nancy Hughes about going to a bell choir concert in Bradenton next week-end.

One Great Hour of Sharing – special Palm Sunday and Easter offerings helping with hunger, disaster relief, and development work among the poor.

CROP walk – the Peace youth are walking this Sunday afternoon because one in seven people will go to bed hungry tonight. Please write support them by writing checks this Sunday to Peace with CROP in the memo.

Stay tuned for the next Peace Habitat workday, which may well be March 24.

Fellowship: Movie Night Friday at 7:15 watching Chocolat; Meet Peace friends at Bradenton Beach at 5:00 on Saturday. Deadline to sign up for The Story of Noah” rustic drama in Wauchula is this Sunday.

March 25 is Welcome Friends to Peace Sunday. Think and pray about whom you might invite to church that Sunday. Of course, friends are welcome on Palm Sunday, Good Friday, and Easter too, but on March 25 we plan to give gifts to all our guests. Over 75% of people who visit a church for the first time come because a friend invited them.

Pastor Tricia is preaching this week on a fascinating scripture, 1 Corinthians 1:18-25, “The Foolishness of the Gospel.” Don’t oversleep! Set your clocks forward on Saturday afternoon. It helps to make the shift earlier.

May Lenten blessings be yours,

Elizabeth

This Week at Peace - - March 2, 2012

I am leaving from Peace tomorrow at 8:15 to attend the very uplifting “Money, Minds & Ministry” seminar at St Armands. It’s being led by Gary Moore, who teaches ethical economics at Luther Seminary. We will return by 11:45. So the Saturday Sisters prayer walk will happen at noon. Wonder if a few of you might join us at noon on the 3rd?

This Sunday is we examine Mark 8:31-38, the challenge to live a sacrificial life. Jesus said, “If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.”

One way you might embrace this sacrificial life is to support the Coalition of Immokalee Workers by prayer, fasting, or showing solidarity in the March 10 Saturday prayer vigil and walk next week. To learn more, click on this link http://www.gamc.pcusa.org/ministries/fairfood/fast-at-publix-headquarters-march5-10/ or go to http://www.interfaithact.org/

Another way would be to write a check to supply a share of rice and beans or bring in a contribution to our underwear and diapers drive. Deny yourselves. Supply the most basic of needs for others.

When Palm Sunday and Easter arrive we will collect the One Great Hour of Sharing, which supports the hungry, those suffering from natural disasters, and those in need of a helping hand.

It’s all about a life of sacrifice this week at Peace. But Jesus says, those who lose their life for his sake will save their lives. Losing is winning!

Peace to all, especially those who are suffering.

Elizabeth
