Holy Week at Peace -- April 17-20, 2014

Dear Friends,

A twenty-two year old man came into church today looking for a phone to use, as his cell had died.  Once inside he realized that he needed more than a phone.  He needed to be heard and to gain a little hope.  In some way, we all come to church seeking to be heard and looking for hope.  This is the week-end for bountiful hope!  No conflict, no problem, not even death can take our hope away forever.  Thanks be to God for raising Christ from the dead.  We live as people with hope!

Maundy Thursday at 7:00 – a time to remember Christ’s call to love one another.
Good Friday at 7:00 – a time to reflect on Christ’s loving sacrifice

Easter Sunday at 8:00, 9:30, and 11:00 – a time to joyfully celebrate the new life we have in Christ!

Remember the One Great Hour of Sharing Offering.   Fill those fish boxes & offering plates to help the hungry, the poor, and those struck by disaster.  Thanks to all who already gave!
Looking ahead,

Saturday, April 26 at 5:00 – a time for good food, fun, and fundraising for the youth.  Bring those door prizes and silent auction items in as soon as possible.   Put them in Room 17.
Sunday, April 27 at 9:45 –the first of six weekly small groups to discuss the Goals of Peace.    Please plan to participate as we need YOUR perspective.

April 27-May 11 -- Mission Team Diaper Drive for Mother’s Day
Grace, mercy, and peace to you all,

Elizabeth

7 New Members!

We get a little taste of resurrection before Easter.  Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead!   This is our third fascinating text from the Gospel of John.  You see better than ever in this story the dual nature of Christ.  He knows Lazarus is dead.  He’s not worried about it.  Yet he is greatly disturbed and starts weeping with the others.  He calls the four-days-dead Lazarus out of the tomb!  Jesus is the resurrection and the life!   And he will raise us up on the last day too!
When you arrive at Peace, notice the new aluminum celtic cross on the rooftop.  We are no longer to be confused with the Motel 6!   Thanks to the generous donor and to Rod Scott for installation.

Both our seminarians are here this Sunday -- Kim Adams and Marilyn Tucker.   See them.  Pray for them.   Kim is soon starting clinical pastor education in a hospital, and Marilyn graduates in May.
Things to remember – pick up your Invitation Plants from the Outreach Team.  Most unchurched or dechurched people will try church if asked by a friend.   Be that friend!

Holy Week Schedule
Palm Sunday at Peace will conclude with simple lunch, egg hunt, tethered balloon rides (weather permitting), and a fishing contest.

Maundy/Holy Thursday at 7:00 – Still need two hosts for simple supper at tables.   “Maundy” is the word for command.  The command from Jesus is to love one another.   Service will end with a silent stripping of the chapel.
Good Friday at 7:00 – Dramatic readings and music.   Service will end at the outdoor wooden cross.

Easter Sunday – Worship at 8:00, 9:30, and 11:00.

Hallelujah!
Grace, peace, and love,

Elizabeth
