Hope you are coming with your friends and your checkbook to Peace’s Wonderful Italian Dinner and Variety Show Saturday, the 27th at 5:00 at First Presbyterian on Oak Street in Sarasota.  Call my cell if you get lost (779-4900) You do not want to miss all the delicious and authentic Italian food that Gia and her crew are preparing, plus the treat of new acts in the variety show!

Don’t forget that we will have a silent auction and raffle and all donations for food and prizes will support our youth as they go to Montreat to grow in Christian faith.  Special thanks to those who have offered prizes like the Sheraton Sand Key Resort of Clearwater (Suzi’s sister) and Rays/Red Sox tickets (Ed and Ellen Walch)

Our new Men's Fellowship Group is having lunch on Sunday at 12:30.  This group is primarily for guys who cannot make the Tuesday morning prayer group.

Ten of us are going to enjoy the Cotton Patch Gospel, a musical at Palm Sola Presbyterian in Bradenton on Sunday afternoon, the 28th.  Meet at Peace at 2:00 if you’d like to come along.

Our scripture for Sunday morning is the story of Peter sharing his vision of the openness of the church from Acts 11.

Speaking of openness, we hope to find someone willing to negotiate with us at C1 Bank in the next day or two.  Our Building Vision leaders have made every effort to push forward.   It will be great when C1 lives up to their motto: Clients first. Community  first.

Let me recommend that a group of Peace friends take advantage of the free concert by the Ariel Quartet (alumni of Perlmann string music program – ask Barbara Staton how good they are) on Monday, May 6 at 7:00 at the Polo Grill Ballroom on Main Street, Lakewood Ranch.   More info on table Sunday.   I’d be there, if not traveling home from daughter Catherine’s college graduation!

With love and prayers,

Elizabeth

While there are individual acts of violence, taking the lives of over eighty US citizens every day, it is disturbing to hear about sudden acts of violence in public places at celebratory events. It makes us all feel less safe. Somehow we assume we are immune to those daily killings, but we are quick to identify with the victims in Boston. They could have been us. We feel terrible for them as well as for the people of West, Texas. Gracious Lord, you are our refuge and strength, our very present help in trouble. We pray for those in the wake of the tragedies in Boston and in Texas. Comfort with your generous grace those who are grieving losses and those who have been working to aid and protect. Pierce the souls of those who act violently in public and in private places. Bring them to remorse and forgiveness. Help us all to work for more peaceful homes, neighborhoods, and communities.

One way you can build more peace is to attend the 5th Italian Dinner and Variety Show on April 27 and help our teens to go to youth conferences, where they will learn to love God and love one another. There they will build the kind of faith that can carry them and others through the trials of years to come. Please sign up for door prizes, salads, desserts, and prepare yourselves for a delicious, enjoyable, and generous evening. Friends and family welcome! Remember it is at First Presbyterian in Sarasota on Oak Street.

Five or six of us are planning to go to The Cotton Patch Gospel musical next Sunday afternoon, the 28th, at 3:00. Sign up if you’d like to join us for an entertaining afternoon. Also that day, a new Men’s Fellowship Group is going to lunch together at 12:30. This group is especially for guys who cannot or do not attend the morning men’s group.

This Sunday we read John 10:22-30, a challenge to those who were not listening to or following the Shepherd, the Christ who is One with his Father in heaven. John Reiter from Cedarkirk will be with us to share about camp. We will hear about the significance of a baptismal renewal and will have the special treat of young musicians.

Regarding the purchase of Faith Church Property: We are still addressing the mold issue with C1 Bank and trying to get a price reduction. Your prayers for a positive outcome are appreciated.

God fill you with peace,

Elizabeth

Do you love Jesus?   That’s the question the Risen Christ asks Peter three times in our scripture for Sunday from John 21.   “Do you love me?”   As our Call to Discipleship this Sunday, several people will be making a deeper commitment to Christ through a renewal of baptism.   If you are interested in reaffirming your love for Christ and your commitment to discipleship, please write back to let me know, so we can talk about it before Sunday.

Remember that the delicious and delightful Peace Spaghetti Dinner/Variety Show is on April 27 at First Presbyterian Church in Sarasota.   Please sign up to bring salads or desserts or door prizes.   This is our chief fund-raiser for youth conferences.  Invite friends and family and let us know how many you are bringing.

Palma Sola Presbyterian in Bradenton has invited us to attend the musical, The Cotton Patch Gospel.   It being performed by professionals from April 25-28, and I hope you will join me in going on Sunday afternoon, the 28th at 3:00.  Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students.

 Peace to you,
 Elizabeth

Dear Peacemakers,

What a joy to have 220 people in worship on the first Sunday of Easter!   Thanks to all the musicians at Peace who prepared so well for our Holy Week services.    This Sunday we will read my favorite Resurrection narrative, The Walk to Emmaus, Luke 24:13-43.   Hope to see you!

Saturday morning you are welcome to join us for Strawberry gleaning (picking the leftover fruit) for local food banks.   We will leave from Peace at 10:00 on Saturday, will pick for a while in Duette (east of Parrish) and then will stop for lunch.   Bring a water bottle, sunglasses, hat, and sunscreen.   You’ll be home by 2:00.

On Sunday evening from 5-7, please join in the Great Race, a riddled scavenger hunt with friendly competition at Peace.  This is the perfect opportunity to build relationships across generations and have a good laugh.   Let Tricia know if you are coming, so she can order chicken.   rompandrun@hotmail.com Bring other food to share.

Finally, let me thank you for all the wonderful birthday cards, bulbs for planting, and $720 for landscaping.   I am blessed to be surrounded by such loving, generous, and supportive friends in Christ.

Peace and love to you,

Elizabeth
