This Week at Peace -- June 11, 2010

Dear Church Family,

We are collecting a Father’s Day Food Offering for the Manatee Food Bank. In memory or honor of your dad, bring all kinds of non-perishable food, maybe even a favorite veg or meat of your father, so we can ease the burdens of hungry families in our county. Father’s Day is the 20th, but feel free to bring it this week, especially if you plan to be away next Sunday.

On Thursday June 17, 2010 from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm the Mission and Justice Committee of Peace River Presbytery invites you to the Presbytery office to meet, ask questions and learn from the Rev. Dr. Nuhad Tomeh, PC(USA) Regional Liaison for Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and the Gulf. (lunch not included). Or even closer, you could attend at Northminster Presbyterian, corner of Lockwood Ridge and University, at noon on Friday, the 18th. (355-4729) Dr. Tomeh also currently oversees the Iraq relief and rehabilitation program for the Middle East Council of Churches. For more information on Dr. Tomeh, go to the Mission Connections website: http://www.pcusa.org/missionconnections/profiles/tomehn.htm

This Sunday’s scripture, Luke 7:36-8:3, challenges us to broaden our understanding of God’s mercy in the way we view ourselves and others, and how deeply we respond in gratitude to God. Gratitude rocks! Find your Bible and rock. Read the scandalous story of the woman who anointed Jesus without shame in front of the self-righteous Pharisees. She demonstrates overflowing, unabashed gratitude for Christ’s love!

Traveling mercies on our senior high youth, who are traveling to Montreat on Saturday for a wonderful conference.

Hope to see you Sunday, if you’re in town.

Grace and peace,

Elizabeth
