Dear Peace Family,
We begin our Season
of Gratitude this Sunday with the theme: 1000
Gifts. We will start counting our blessings together, and
praying that our hearts will be overflowing with Thanksgiving by the middle
of November. Our scripture this Sunday is a challenging
one – the story of the rich man in Mark 10:17-31. Please
struggle with me over what it means for us today to have more with less.
Speaking of gratitude, what a wonderful
World Communion Sunday we shared. Thanks to all
of you who helped set up, who cooked and cleaned. Pastor Kade
embodied the prayerful, peaceful spirit that is a supreme witness to the
grace of Jesus Christ.
If you were moved by her talks on the problem of human trafficking
and want to help a local family struggling to recover from it, go to the
Mission Table and read the story. Also read about an
opportunity to provide
housing for International Students over the Christmas
holidays and help us decide whether we can participate as
hosts.
Our Halloween Food
Collection flyers will be ready for you on Sunday, along
with an explanation of how you can reach out to your neighbors to share
about Peace’s life and help the hungry with one activity.
We are sharing peacemaking skills with East County elementary students on
October 22nd at our 6th
Peace in the Park and on Saturday, October 27, you are all
invited to our Sing
for Your Supper Italian Dinner to help purchase the new
Presbyterian Hymnal for our choir and other music readers in the
congregation.
In this polarizing election season, let us at Peace be sure to show one
another the deepest
respect and love, for we may differ in politics and
perspectives, but we are truly one in Jesus Christ, despite our diversity
on many issues.
With gratitude for each of you and the unique gifts you bring to our
community,
Elizabeth
