It is Ascension Day, the 40th day of
Easter, when we remember Christ’s ascension to heaven, a mystery as impossible
to explain as the resurrection, but a truth we hold in faith. Great
night to attend Science & Religion as we discuss “What Does It Mean to Be
Human.”
Our scripture for this week is 2 Corinthians 1:3-11, a passage about how those
who suffer are able to console others. I will share the
comfort of Christian support, as we feared daughter Emily in Korea had
meningitis. We celebrate the steady return of Music Director Gia’s
strength and health, following her surgery. Suffering draws us all
closer to one another and to God.
We will commission Stephen Ministers this Sunday. Stephen Ministers
are the “after” people who provide compassionate, confidential care after (or
during) any kind of trouble in your life. Our Stephen Ministers will
be assisted by several of the ordained Presbyterian ministers (teaching elders)
in our congregation. If you need to talk, a Stephen Minister
is ready to listen. Speak to me about setting up a supportive
relationship like this.
This is the last call to complete the Building Vision survey by Friday night,
the 18th.
Last call to join the Habitat work team for Saturday. Show up
at Peace at 7:00. Last call for a Peace-ful Sunset at South Lido at
5:00 Saturday.
Pentecost (celebration of the Holy Spirit – red day!) is the 27th of
May. The week after that, June 3rd, we will Celebrate
Summer at Peace with all kinds of fun intergenerational activities after
worship. This will be a day of rejoicing for many reasons.
Come and see. Invite a friend.
Peace to all,
Elizabeth
